Basic Chainsaw Safety
A mandatory course for all those who are operating a chainsaw. Students will receive hands-on training on the safe operation of a chainsaw and learn about the risks and hazards associated.
In Ontario, the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and its related regulations require employers to provide adequate information, instruction, and supervision to workers who operate equipment such as chainsaws. Significant fines for employers and supervisors can result if the employer fails to provide proper training.
OHSA, Section 25(2)(a): Employers must provide instruction, training, and supervision to protect workers’ health and safety.
Regulation 851 – Industrial Establishments: Employers must ensure that equipment such as chainsaws is maintained in good condition and that workers are trained in its proper use.
Construction Projects Regulation 213/91: Requires workers to be trained and competent in the use of hazardous tools and equipment, including chainsaws.
